PROGRAM - CAMP STAFF INFORMATION

The camp staff at HSR are made up of young men and women under the leadership of experienced senior staff and are ready to make your visit to HSR one which you won't soon forget - from the moment you unpack your equipment to the closing campfire!

The Camp Ranger

The Camp Ranger will be in camp from about May 1st until October 31st. His main duties are supervising a pre-camp work party, to get the facilities and services ready for the summer and keep them functional throughout the summer. In September, he is busy again with a work party closing up the camp for the winter season, hence his time is spent on this type of work. Groups using the camp in the spring and fall must check-in and check-out with the Camp Ranger and come under his jurisdiction while they are in camp.

THE SUMMER CAMP STAFF

A staff of approximately 60 people is employed for the months of July and August to assist with the operation of the Haliburton Scout Reserve for the thousands of Scouts, Venturers, Rovers and their Leaders and families, who attend during the summer months. Many members of the staff are students and are skilled and qualified in the particular phase of the operation for which they have been employed. You will find the staff to be available to assist you at any time and to ensure that your campers have a happy, healthy summer camping experience.

Positions include:
  • Maintenance Staff
  • Kitchen Staff
  • Program Staff
  • Waterfront Staff
  • Store Staff
  • Administration Staff
  • Camp Nurse & Doctors

Staff-in-Training Program
This program, started in 1963, provides an opportunity for those interested in becoming H.S.R. staff members in future years. Applicants should be 15 years of age by July 1st. Staff-in-training spend week-long periods working in the various camp departments such as maintenance, store, staff kitchen, administration, program and the composite leadership team. This allows participants to determine where they might like to work as paid staff members, and gives the supervisory staff an opportunity to evaluate their skills, leadership and teamwork abilities. Staff-in-training are not paid, but receive room and board and participate fully in staff activities throughout the summer.
